Time for a NEW cell phone.

Which Cell Phone is best

I still think TRACFONE offers the best deals.

Here is why.

My cell phone went for a swim in the creek the day before yesterday! I quickly caught it, removed the cover and took out the battery.  Whenever a device gets wet remove the power from it.

I set the pieces  in my pockets with the battery on the left and the phone on the right!

I got to the truck and set the pieces on the seat. Then when I arrived home I set it on the counter to dry even further. Last night I put it back together and low and behold it worked. So I plugged it in to charge the battery as I would normally do.

happyface

I get up  in the morning and try to fire it up. As it was sleeping it passed away to the other side.

OK not entirely but close enough to make it almost impossible to use.  Some of the buttons were not working anymore like the cursor and the enter key.

So I get online to Amazon and look for phones. Why because on Amazon and in particular with cell phones, it will pick up the best prices.  I have done Amazon shopping many times and found to save a few pennies every time.

SO I am keeping with tracfone no contract and I spot the newer version of my phone the LG 530G with triple minutes.  and it is less then $30.00.

I order it up and get overnight delivery.

It comes the next day and I plugin the battery and go to my account page at Tracfone and start to activate the new phone.  I transfer my300+ minutes and disable my old phone.  It took me about 20 minutes.  There were some minutes for activating online and The triple minutes on my doubles minutes was close to 1500 minutes.

Bottom line, around $30.00 I upgraded my phone and also received well over 1000 minutes for with change my minutes to the triple minutes that came with the phone.

How sick is that? Which cell phone is best? Obvious here.

I Love my tracfone.
Bill

So Verizon is adding a convenience fee, when you pay your bill.

So Verizon is adding a convenience fee, when you pay your bill.

Hot off the wires today.

A convenience fee? Yup Convenient for the shareholders and Verizon.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/247119/verizons_2_bill_payment_fee_sparks_outrage_online.html

New fees starting January 2012! Wow impeccable timing, end of the month, Holiday week. If you could time it while most of your clients aren’t paying attention or busy.  Wow Nice move.

Doesn’t this sound a lot like the Bank Of America debit card fee.

Let’s try to sneak it on them while they are not paying attention.  Shame on you Verizon.  I am glad I switched to Tracfone a while ago and don’t miss one thing Verizon did/does.

Tracfone billing is simple Pay x amount of dollars get minutes that simple.

I really don’t care about all your line items. Your line items appears a lot like a little kid making excuses why their homework isn’t done.

Here are the simple steps to get rid of Verizon.
1)Tell them you are going, or don’t.
2)Sign up for a tracfone and
3)switch you number.

That is how simple it is.

Just in from The Tracfone Club

A repost from the Tracfone club

Here are a bunch of promo codes for September and October 2011 and their current status according to our reader results.  Some of these codes may require Double Minutes for Life (DMFL) to fully maximize their benefit.  DMFL rules, so you should make sure to acquire a DMFL Tracfone phone.

Here we go, in no particular order:

  • 67861 – use with: 60-minute card – provides: 60 bonus minutes!
  • 21480 – use with: 1-year card – provides: 300 bonus minutes! (buy card from Amazon for more savings)
  • 15758 – use with: 120-minute card – provides: 40 bonus minutes!
  • 77578 – use with: 200-minute card – provides: 100 bonus minutes!
  • 28079 – use with: 1-year card – provides: 200 bonus minutes!

Another recently popular tip is to purchase a phone combo on the Tracfone site that contains a 60-minute card.  Use the card and then sell the phone on eBay or something.  People have been reporting success with this technique.

Have a great day

It has been several Months with the Tracfone.

Which Cell Phone is best?

It has been several Months with the Tracfone (insert fanfare music here)

I am one happy camper. I have already ROI on the switch over and so much simpler.  It just works and works well.

Tracfone has added some cool new programs as well, The family Plan one price per multiple phones. Simply add more phones as needed.

Asked what towers they use?

I have had a Verizon phone and contract for almost 9 years.  After several Surprise increases and needing to upgrade outside my “allotted upgrade window”,  I decided screw them, I am switching.

I am a telco guy aka data communications guy and after a very long search found Tracfone.   Tracfone has no network or towers. They use the towers owned by Sprint, Verizon, Cingular and just about everyone else, so if there is a tower nearby, Tracfone can use it.  That is called “smart smart smart”

What is the best Cell Phone?

After Several months on the tracfone I can attest “best thing that I have ever done budget and phone wise.”

Check out the full blog for more info.  You can get the phones at most gas  stations and of course wally world as well as some of the more popular grocery stores, if you are in a hurry.

If your not in a hurry use one of the online links in this blog.

Keep in Touch

Week 1 no more Cell Contract

Week 1 Which cell phone is best.

It was a little scary at first but I am over that now. I have most of the contacts moved over to the new phone and now just use the old phone for a paper weight.

Have you ever wondered what to do with all those old cell phones you have had and now keep in that special drawer of junk. That’s me here to help!

The used cell phones stashed away in your closets or drawers does have real value. To some, these cell phones offer an opportunity to communicate in a way that they never have. and  The materials that comprise our old cell phones can also be recycled and reused to make many other products, and therefore helping to preserve the world around us. Imagine the difference each of us can make if we just do our part!  here is the Link for you to recycle your phone for free.  http://recellular.com/recycling/donatePhones.asp You will find the nearest place to drop them off.

Anyhow back to my new Cell phone the Lg500G from Tracfone.  Both my wife an I have new phones.  So it is quite a learning experience.  I am starting to like mine a lot better since I am learning how to use it. is there anything I miss from the snake. A resounding NO!

The old wireless supplier is now offering many deals to get me back but sorry guys too little too late.

There was some concern about minutes  with Tracfone. But Tracfone can go way up in the minutes. If that is the only thing stopping you forget about it.   It can also have a family plan or a monthly plan so this phone will cover the group of basic phone users.  Which a good percentage of us are basic phone users.  The no contract stigma of last resort cell phone used big time by the old boys club is just that. Really folks a contract isn’t all that it is Jacked up to be.

The sound quality is as good or better (most often they are using the same cell towers) so the coverage is the same.  If this phone gets lost or dropped it or whatever reason destroyed.  I simply go to the nearest gas station or big box store and plunk down another $20.00 for a phone and get a new phone. Then I simply call to switch everything over to the new phone (which has been taking about 5 minutes I am told) 24 hour service! Can’t beat that.  The last repair job I got from the Snake I paid 79.00 for a repair Yes I paid for the repair.  Don’t ask I am embarrassed to say.

Then we have fees, The old bill I needed a lawyer and although I am a telecom analyst and know my way around a telco bill I still needed to be on the inside to make sense of it.

Tracfone is simple you buy minutes and there are different rates at which minutes are used.

Texting is a third of a minute,  a ring tone is a few minutes.  This has nationwide coverage so there is no overage roaming or other secret charges.   You get low on minutes go get some more and thsse carry over as long as the phone is current. So the minutes I buy are my minutes, all Mine (insert evil laugh)

After reviewing this basic phone I have decided to take this a little further.  I am dividing phone users up into 3 categories basic, just as we are all not the same I am adding in 2 more groups business casual, and then Power users.  That way we can pinpoint the best phone for the 3 different groups.

I feel 100% better now that I got rid of the snake.  Tracfone scores points all across,

1) Decent phone.
2) enough variability in the plans to accommodate all but a very few users.
3) Ease of setup
4) Simplicity
5) You can do this all online or at your nearest big box store.

I say it has been a great week.

Which Cell Phone Is the Best. A review.

Which Cell Phone Is the Best?

The best cell  phone, as I have said before, is like anything else which is personal.  It is to each their own. Here is my choice for Best Cell Phone, Best Cell phone Plan, Best prepaid  cell phone and plan.

I am not the only one that’s picked this phone.

This review is from: LG LG500G Tracfone with Double Minutes for Life – L. Anderson (San Diego, CA) June 26, 2011, writes:  “The  LG500g tracfone is a Good Basic Phone for Texting and Calling”.

I’ve had this phone for about 6 weeks, and like it.

I replaced an AT&T contract and a Motorola Razor with this Tracfone. For my purposes (texting and phone calls) it’s just fine, and the full QWERTY keyboard is certainly much better for texting than what I had with the Razor.

The instruction manual which comes with the phone is minimal, but Tracfone has a very informative interactive tutorial for the phone at their website. The one feature which I miss that my Razor had and this phone doesn’t is voice-activated dialing.

My significant other travels overseas quite a bit, and I use this phone to text and chat with him on his ATT phone while he’s abroad. The charges for these international calls are no more than they would be for any call made here in the states. The sound quality for these overseas calls is great (except for the random clicking on the calls to/from China..maybe someone is eavesdropping??)

I’ve been tracking my usage, and recently bought one year, 1500 minutes (doubled to 3000 minutes, with a 100 minute bonus) from Tracfone. I estimate that with my usage, this phone will run me about $15/mo. Certainly a bargain when compared to the AT&T contract which I had previously.

I also bought and use a SDHC micro chip (4GB, the maximum capacity for the phone) for playing tunes. It works just fine on this phone.

Back to you Bill”

I am patiently waiting for my Tracfone cell phone to arrive. Then I can review it more in depth.

Don’t activate your phone until you read the next post on cost and how to get extra minutes on everything from activating your phone to buying extra minutes.

Note: I’m a Network Telecom geek with over 30 years experience in Telecommunications and networking.

Have a great day

How we are finding out which cell phone is best?

We Went Out to Find Which Cell Phone is Best!

Since my cell company has let us down on many occasions over the last 9 years, we are moving on.  Wow!  Did I say 9 years?  How stupid could I have been? Economic times as they are and just being down right POed at them has left me wanting and my investigations and preparation for this day indicate that Tracfone 500 are the guys to compete with these days.

No I didn’t just say one day it is time to move, over the last few months I wanted to find out which cell phone is best.

So what makes a person become so obsessed with an EX cell phone carrier and being so mad as to order up a domain, and start blogging about which cell phone is best?  Well it has been 9 years and here is my story.

It was like signing up for a Monty Python skit in the store I went to.  The store that was out of the way, on a one way street, that you had to make a U turn on  to get into.   The store where a new batch of picture phones were delivered and the 8 salespeople and staff were playing with the new phones while I and several others stood in line waiting for them to finish their antics of taking pictures of each other and laughing and carrying on.  I am all for fun at work and all, but Come On!

Adding insult to injury, when our phone broke last time, almost 2 years to the date of purchase and we needed them to replace it, the service clerk literally laughed at me and said I would have to buy a new phone and renew for another 2 years. It was definitely not the best cell phone.

Our ‘relationship’ with this company has been like a relationship between a snake handler and a snake.  I really had to ask myself this time why bother with them?  I have better things to spend my time on.  Yes we had insurance.  Yes we had a great plan.  Yes we had bunch of other stuff with them.

But, we paid handsomely for that plan over the years.  Close to the price of a car over $15,000.00 dollars.  And when it came time for them to pull it together, well they didn’t. I should have then dropped them then like a hot potato.  But no they “were the best cell phone company”.  Don’t you believe that for a second.

Understanding how stupid that was, I could kick myself around the block OR I can find the best deal I can and share it with you.  Hopefully you’ll avoid the Monty Python phone sales company and you’ll save some bucks too.

So I went on the hunt.  As I’ve said before best is in the eye of the beholder.  I was looking for a decent phone, some texting and a low price tag.  You kind of know when you’re paying top dollar and receiving really bad service and no customer consideration that you’re overpaying for your product.  But I’ve discovered that a customer PAYS WAY TOO MUCH and obviously a reseller MAKES WAY TOO MUCH COMMISSION, particularly as they’re not offering much in return.

After some investigation I have decided to go with Tracfone 500 and one of their prepaid cell phones plans. I am naming it the Best Prepaid Cell phone plan. It also happens to be the cheapest prepaid cell phone plan.

Yesterday online, I ordered the Tracfone 500 with double minutes for life and a prepaid minutes card, which will all be here on the 8th (today is the 5th).  I purchased the Tracfone 500 and minute card, all for less than $50.00 and it should be good for a couple of months before refilling.  I used to pay almost 3 times that every month for service!

I couldn’t pick up cell phone insurance (that’ll be a good blog – to see if anyone out there is offering some decent, cost effective, non-specific cell phone insurance), but my cell phone isn’t gold plated. and if I drop it, leave it somewhere or otherwise need another phone, I know I can go to almost anywhere and pick up a compatible phone for less then a 20 spot and be back in business by transferring my minutes, account and number.

(The one I had insured with the snake wasn’t gold plated either.  In fact it was a $9.00 phone. $9.00 phone is an expression I use when I mean just the basics please).

The $50 online deal I did was for the Tracfone 500 and it provided an online saving of $8.00. I received double minutes for life and a 200 minute card which will double my time to 400 minutes.  On this phone I will use about 70 minutes a month. SO this 50 dollar investment should last me about 5 months before buying another card.

And … I feel refreshed today.  I got rid of my snake.  Here’s my  message to them:  Can you hear me now?

Note:  This Tracfone 500 could have been picked up at a big box store, but I’m still a little raw from my last encounter with them too. Online works for me.

Have a great day!

Another review! Which Cell Phone is best?

I’m pleased with this phone, June 29, 2011

You may think I work for Tracfone with all the blogging I have been doing about this lately. Wrong I do not work for Tracfone and in fact in no way affiliated with them.  I do make a little money if you use my amazon link.

So I can say with impugnity, at one time Tracfone was running a close to second to worst Customer Service.  BUT they’ve reworked it for the better and do seem to be reaching for a higher customer service bar.  I believe when a company addresses an issue with a fix then they need to be given a second chance.  So I’m still lookin’ at Tracfone.  Their pricing attracted me.  Their service is keeping me interested.

With thanks to Suzanne M. Black - Amazon Verified Purchase

Last week I dropped my LG 420G in water and permanently lost the display.

I had considered replacing it with another of the same until I found this LG 500G and at a great price. I read several reviews and knew what to expect, which is a basic phone with a QWERTY keyboard, mp3 player, and micro sd slot. Not bad at all for under $25, and I received it in 3 days, also!

This phone is lightweight, and the keys work for me, although it might be a tad small for someone with large fingers. So far I’ve had no problems with it at all. I would also like to add that I had to contact Tracfone’s customer service to have my old # and minutes transferred to the new phone, and anticipated it being a nightmare after reading about how horrible their CS is. Fortunately, that was not the case for me at all.

Customer service was courteous, expedient, and helpful. I was off the phone in less than 10 minutes with my new phone activated, minutes and number transferred, and a few bonus minutes to boot. I’m so glad I thought to look up Tracfones on Amazon. It was yet another good deal!”
